Artist Statement #2

For this project, I ended up making three Tiktok filters primarily using Blender, but also using Effect House a little bit on one of my filters. The first filter I made is a little goldfish that swims around the screen and has some bubbles on screen as well. I modeled and animated the goldfish in Blender which ended up being a lot harder than I thought. I had to look up quite a few different tutorials to get the fish to move how I wanted it too, and while it isn’t perfect, I like how it looks. I added the bubbles in Effect House as an extra touch.

My second filter, and ultimately the most difficult of the three is a Spiderman mask that sits on top of the user’s face. It was incredibly difficult to get the mask to curve how I needed it to, and getting the eyes to curve with the front of the mask was even more frustrating. Making all of the webbing on the mask was also pretty tedious, though not as difficult as getting the eyes to work right. However, I’m pretty happy with the way it turned out.

The third filter I made is low-poly capybara that sits on the user’s shoulder and nods its head. At first, this was all that I had for this filter, but I decided it needed something else, so I added a little purple witch hat on both the capybara and a larger one that sits on the user’s head. I also added a sparkle sticker effect in Effect House that appears on the user’s cheeks.

Overall, this project was super fun and I really enjoyed getting to work with Blender more, even if it was pretty frustrating at times. I think I will definitely keep using Blender on my own in the future.
