I ended up loosely going with one of my ideas from my brainstorming for this project. My piece Run is meant to be an audio mix based on the slasher film genre. I wanted to see if I could make a linear narrative using only the sounds we recorded for this assignment, and honestly, I think I pulled it off. However, I did want to exclude some of the more common elements of slasher films, partly because those sounds weren't readily available to me, and partly as a challenge to see if it would still have a similar vibe. The main things I chose to exclude are the common horror stinger tracks that are so frequently used to build suspense, and the heavy breathing (or any constant breathing at all) that would typically accompany a slasher film protagonist running for their life. I think these two elements would make it too obvious what I'm trying to convey with this track and what my inspirations were.

There were definitely some challenges I faced when editing the sound bites together. Some sounds I wanted to add weren't included in the ones available to us, and I couldn't record all of them organically, so I had to get creative with playing around with pitch, speed, and distortion to create the sounds I needed. This was a bit frustrating at times, but I feel more connected to my final piece than I think I would've if I had the ability to just pull any sounds I needed off the internet, so the challenge was ultimately welcome.
